Gnabry: The World At His Feet!

Gnabry: The World At His Feet!

The previously, relatively unknown midfielder Serge Gnabry, who has been capped at youth level for Germany, has risen to prominence this season with his mature displays for the Gunners in the Premier League. He scored the winner in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Swansea City in September and also won a penalty for his side in their next match against Crystal Palace.

He joined the north London side for a meagre fee of £100,000 as a 16-year-old from German side Stuttgart and his impressive performances for the youth and reserve side at the Emirates has seen him catapulted into first-team action this campaign.

He may have not got the opportunity to shine at the big stage but injuries to key personnel like Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain amongst others meant he was required to fill in. However, the German has grabbed the bull by the horns and has firmly established himself in the Arsenal squad with some assured displays in Arsenal’s midfield, which contains the likes of Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey.

According to ESPN, the youngster could even make the Germany squad travelling to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup if he can keep up his current level of performances.

German national coach Joachim Loew and his assistant Hansi Flick were present at the Liberty Stadium when Gnabry struck the winner in the second half to hand Arsenal a 2-1 win.

The 18-year-old was at Wembley to witness Germany’s 1-0 victory over arch-rivals England on Tuesday night, and Loew told the media that the winger can be a surprise inclusion when he names his preliminary World Cup squad next year.

He said, “The boy is really good. He has exceptional qualities. I’m still open to taking him to the World Cup. We have an eye on him.”

Although the young German has broken into Arsenal’s first-team, making the German national squad will be a different kettle of fish altogether. He has yet to represent his nation at the highest level and Germany have only one more friendly – against Chile in March – before Loew names his squad.
