Gary Neville Reveals What Positives Arsenal Can Take From The Defeat Against Liverpool

Arsenal may have succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday but TV pundit Gary Neville believes the Gunners can take some positives from the loss at Anfield.

The former Manchester United defender thinks that manager Unai Emery would have been happy with the effort shown and that supporters should be happy that progress is being made under the Spaniard:

“It’s the manner of the performance sometimes with Arsenal in the past we’ve been critical of. I’ve not seen that today, they are still going, they’ve not left anything in the changing room, it’s all out there on the pitch.”

“I know it’s still a defeat but psychologically, I think even those Arsenal fans are still there, there have been times in the past when they’ve been walking out of here with 15-20 minutes to go, that’s not the case today.”

“It sounds a little patronising when you’re a club as big as Arsenal to say there are positives when you’ve lost 3-1 but they are playing against a really good side. And I think this performance from Arsenal today will win a lot of away games this season.”

There were certainly a couple of ‘What If’ moments during the match. In the first half, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang chipped wide of the goal after a mistake from Reds goalkeeper Adrian when it was still 0-0. Later on, Nicolas Pepe went clean through on goal only to fluff his lines.

Even when they went 3-0 down, Arsenal did not completely capitulate as they have done in the past, and the consolation goal from Lucas Torreira would have given the team a small boost.

With that being said, the defeat does show that the Gunners still have a way to go to catch up with the top two clubs in the Premier League.
