Gary Neville Names The Arsenal Player Who Has “Shocked” Him With His Performances This Season

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has praised Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for the massive contribution he has made to the Gunners’ title challenge.

Many questioned the £30m that the Gunners paid for the 24-year-old in the summer of 2021, especially as it wasn’t an area of the pitch that many felt needed to be strengthened, and Neville says it has surprised him how well things have worked out for Ramsdale:

“He’s shocked me, him. I thought that was an incredible signing, to lose Leno and to lose Martinez obviously to Villa. I’m stunned in the way in which [he’s playing], he’s now pushing Jordan Pickford [for the England No.1 spot] I would imagine very close.”

Neville was speaking before Arsenal’s game against West Ham on Sunday and some have since argued that the club’s number one should have done better for Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser.

However, you can’t argue with the fact that Ramsdale has been an excellent purchase for the Gunners. Just a week before he had put in an outstanding display to prevent Mikel Arteta’s side from losing against Liverpool at Anfield. The rest of the campaign has also seen him produce some world-class saves that have proven crucial in securing results for his team.
