French duo would present the perfect transfer business for Arsenal

As we rapidly approach July, and the official opening of the summer transfer window, Arsenal continue to be linked with a wealth of top-class additions as Arsene Wenger’s side seek to return to the Champions League and contend for the Premier League crown.

The Gunners have already secured the services of Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke and are now focused on strengthening their attacking options, amidst speculation that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil could still leave the Emirates Stadium.

Reports have suggested that Arsenal are ready to spend big this summer, likely smashing their club-record transfer fee, and there were suggestions over the weekend that the Gunners are looking to sign Manchester United’s Anthony Martial along with Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette has been tracked by some of Europe’s top-sides for a while now and seems set to leave French football ahead of the World Cup next year, with the 26-year-old facing a huge test to force his way into Didier Deschamps’ plans for the campaign in Russia.

The pacy and prolific striker would be a significant upgrade to the Gunners attacking ranks, whilst the addition of Martial from Manchester United would be another bold move- and could lessen the blow from any departure of star-man Alexis.

Martial, still just 21, has made a positive impression in the Premier League since joining from Monaco in 2015 but struggled to assert himself in Jose Mourinho’s plans last season- leading to suggestions he could be on the way out.

It would be a stern challenge for Arsenal to persuade their Premier League rivals to approve a sale, with the last transfer taking a player from the North West to North London coming in 2008 when the Gunners signed Mikael Silvestre, but it would be a real statement of intent from Arsenal.

With Wenger developing Martial, the French starlet could fulfil his true potential and the partnership he could create with Lacazette and Mesut Ozil, should the German stay, would make the Gunners genuine contenders for a Premier League title that has eluded them since 2004.

Whilst Martial wouldn’t quite provide the same attacking threat that Alexis Sanchez does on the left-hand side, the Frenchman would fit into Arsenal’s system more fluidly than the Chilean- and Arsenal would have a star on their hands for the future.

The addition would also see the Gunners continue to build a side that can excel in the coming years, joining the likes of Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding as potential stars of the future- presenting Arsenal with a strong platform to build on.

As mentioned though, persuading Manchester United into a deal will certainly not be easy and securing both Lacazette and Martial could see the Gunners smash their club-record transfer twice in the same summer- which would certainly indicate a new dawn is approaching in North London.
