Arsenal failed to sign a striker during the January transfer window, but they could still add one via free agency if they want to.
The Gunners saw a bid for Aston Villa attacker Ollie Watkins rejected during the transfer window, however, they decided not to come in with a second bid for the England international.
Arsenal were also linked with Bayern striker Mathys Tel, who ended up making a transfer deadline-day move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Mikel Arteta‘s side are currently second in the Premier League table, and as many believe that they will need a striker to beat Liverpool to the title, they may decide to look at free agents to add some goal-scoring quality.
Arsenal could target former Chelsea star
Many fans of the Premier League will remember when Chelsea had striker Diego Costa up front between 2014 and 2018 when they won the title twice.
Costa is currently a free agent, he most recently played for Brazilian side Gremio after a spell at Botafogo too. He returned to the Premier League to play for Wolves in the 2022/23 season.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Costa scored 59 goals in 120 appearances. He could come in and provide extra depth for Arsenal up front.
Who else could the Gunners sign as a free agent?
There are several other free agent strikers available, although it would scream of desperation if Arsenal were to sign them. Firstly, former La Liga star Maxi Gomez is available as a free agent after he left Turkish side Trabzonspor in the summer.
Gomez, 28, had his best scoring season in 2018 for Celta Vigo, when he scored 18 goals in 36 league games. He was worth over £30 million at his peak.
Furthermore, lesser known Italian striker Andrea Compagno is also available as a free agent. He has experience in the Europa League, and most recently played for Chinese side Jinmen Tiger. Compagno has scored 117 goals in his career, and plays primarily as a centre-forward.
