Arsenal’s summer has been a mixed bag. They have made some useful additions to the squad but they have certainly not been as many as manager Mikel Arteta would have liked.

It means the Gunners will almost certainly go into Friday evening’s curtain-raiser against Brentford pretty undercooked, with a number of players still yet to be added to the first-team squad.

For that reason alone, it is hard to know what to expect in terms of the result, especially as their opponents will be chomping at the bit to make an impression in their first match in the top flight.
