Four Deals Arsenal Could Start Working On In January

The Gunners have been having a solid run up until now but things may get difficult with games piling on. The 19 players Wenger has been using have been cut down recently by two after Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott sustained some minor injuries which will keep them off the pitch for a month. It is to be expected though as out of those 19 players, 14 have been used as number one picks since the beginning of the season and have rarely been substituted before the 70-minute mark. With that in mind, some transfer negotiations are in place. It is highly improbable to see any big name move to Emirates this January but that does not mean negotiations will be inexistent. Here is a list of players who could be part Wenger’s plan:

  1. Ezequiel Lavezzi – This 30-year-old is the most likely to get in contact with Arsenal this winter as his contract with PSG is about to expire in June 2016. He could be a decent substitute for Sanchez or could also be a team regular if Wenger decides to use the Chilean on the right again. The problem is that he will be turning 31 nest May which is above Arsenal’s usual transfer age average.
  2. Nolito – Currently with Celta Vigo, the Spaniard is having a good season and again would be a decent alternative for the left side of the attack. The Spanish side would let him go for about £8m but just as Lavezzi, he is a bit over the average in terms of age – he will be turning 30 in 2016.
  3. Daniele Rugani – This 21-year-old is probably the most interesting player on this list. Currently with Juventus, this center back has a similar profile to that of Mertesacker and could be a good replacement for when the German decides to leave Emirates. Rugani made an appearance for Juve this year and already made 81 appearances for Empoli which is something given his age.
  4. Hakan Calhanoglu – This young Turkey international who is currently playing for Leverkusen,  has a lot of potential and could take Rosický’s place in Wenger’s lot. He could definitely step in for Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey or Wilshere. Signing him will be tough though as he is one of the top youngsters bound to be sold soon.
