Fellaini Reveals Arsenal Interest

Fellaini Reveals Arsenal Interest

The Belgian international had a very successful sesaon at Everton last year as he became the heartbeat of the team over the course of the season. He was almost indispensable in the middle of the park and was one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Such was his importance to the team, that Everton simply refused to listen to offers for the giant midfielder. One of the bids were by Arsenal, as revealed by Fellaini in a recent interview. ESPNFC report him as saying, “I will not reveal the details, but Arsenal wanted me this summer.”

The Gunners were looking for a big name signing all summer, and Fellaini was on their shortlist. Everton did well to fend off Arsenal’s interest in their main man though.

However, they were powerless on transfer Deadline Day as he was taken away from them by their former manager David Moyes, who took him to Old Trafford with him. Arriving at Manchester United for £24 million on the back of such a successful season at Everton, the expectations were immense on his shoulders to recreate the same level of performances for the league champions.

Fellaini has however struggled to settle in at his new club, and is still finding his way. The patience among the United faithful is quickly wearing out with respect to Fellaini, and there are fears that he will turn out to be a big money disappointment. He was also quoted as saying, “Manchester United convinced me.”

“During the transfer window, there’s always a list of players who are available to change clubs. You never know what’s right. I only knew that Moyes was interested.

“I’m not trying to be [Paul] Scholes or [Michael] Carrick. I want to play my own game. It’s difficult at the moment, but I will succeed.”

Arsenal’s failure to land Fellaini has in fact turned out to be a blessing in disguise for them, as they went ahead and signed Mesut Ozil instead, who has been a massive hit at the London club. Do you think Arsenal will be ruing the missed chance regarding Fellaini?
