With many pundits and journalists expecting Arsenal to make limited signings this summer based only on a small budget and any cash generated from outgoing transfers, Gooners must be pretty happy with how the club backed new boss Mikel Arteta.

While the club did add a bunch of players the main outlays came on the free-agent signing of Brazilian forward Willian who signed a lucrative new deal at the Emirates after leaving rivals Chelsea, while centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes joined for a fee of £27million and Thomas Partey the Ghana midfielder left Atletico Madrid on deadline day move for a significant fee of £45million.

It was the deadline day completion of the much rumoured acquisition of Thomas Partey which surprised many of us with the club not expected to pull off such a deal after earlier deals for the two Brazilians Willian and Magalhaes.

We asked fans who they thought would be the most successful signing for Arsenal and surprisingly Gooners voted 53% for the unheralded centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes who joined from Ligue 1 outfit Lille, with the seeming favourite Thomas Partey being beaten into second place with 45% of the vote with Willian only receiving a most surprising 2% of the vote.

Looking at the results from the Poll below the reasoning for Gabriel Magalhaes winning may well be because of his composed displays at the heart of the Arsenal defence with the team winning 4 games, drawing 1 game and losing just 2 games with him playing as well as the Brazilian scoring on his debut.
