Arsenal face West Ham on Saturday at the Emirates with a 3pm kick-off. Given the injuries to the Gunners’ forwards, fans are wondering who Mikel Arteta will select in the centre-forward position? Vote in our poll below.
Arsenal have endured some poor luck to say the least when it comes to the treatment table this season. The club have lost numerous players for extended periods across the season and are still in touch with Liverpool in the title race as well as qualifying for the Champions League knockout round of 16. Ex-Gunner Lee Dixon thinks Arsenal still have a chance in the title race as he expects Liverpool to drop points.
The area of the squad which is critically hit at the moment is very much the forwards with the most recent injury being to Kai Havertz who did his hamstring while away in Dubai for a warm weather training trip during a set-piece drill. The German forward had become a pretty much automatic selection as Arsenal’s centre-forward. But what now?
Who should Mikel Arteta select as the striker to face West Ham?
Well there are not many forwards who are not injured with Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling being the only fully recognised senior attackers still fit. Midfielder Mikel Merino filled in admirably last weekend Vs Leicester City with his brace off the bench when he replaced Sterling but can he deliver again?
Ethan Nwaneri seems like he could do a job and rounds out the options unless Arteta pulls a shock and starts a player like centre-back Gabriel. Our lead Arsenal writer Dylan Oakley has gone with this predicted Arsenal XI to face the Hammers.

Who are the other injured Arsenal forwards?
In addition to Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus is out for the season with an ACL injury, fellow Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli is due to be out of action for 4-5 weeks another with a hamstring injury he picked up Vs Newcastle at the start of February and lastly Bukayo Saka is unlikely to return anytime soon as he is still undergoing treatment for the – yes you guessed it – hamstring injury he sustained in December which required surgery.
He’s not a forward but it was revealed this week that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is sidelined for the season with a serious knee injury leaving yet another hole in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
