Fabrizio Romano Reveals Why Aubameyang Is Stalling On Signing A Contract Extension

The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will only look at signing an extension to his contract with the Gunners if he doesn’t get offers from other clubs.

The reliable Italian reporter says the Gunners have left an offer on the table since December, which the Gabonese striker has decided not to sign for the time being. Replying to a question on Instagram, Romano said:

“Same bid for Auba’s contract [from Arsenal] since December… he’ll consider it on [sic] next weeks only if no other clubs will contact him.”

It does tally with Aubameyang’s own comments that he is yet to make up his mind about his future, but it is concerning that the 31-year-old appears to be waiting for offers from other teams.

Whether manager Mikel Arteta can persuade the forward into signing on the dotted line by outlining his ambitions for the London club, we shall have to wait and see.

At the moment, though, it seems the likelihood of Aubameyang staying depends on the likes of Inter Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain deciding against making a move for the player.
