“Enough is enough” – Arsenal fans call on Wenger to step down after Carabao Cup defeat

Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to call for Arsene Wenger to step down as the club’s manager following their defeat in the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

The Gunners were humbled 3-0 at Wembley by Pep Guardiola’s side, failing to win the league cup yet again despite reaching the final of the competition three times since the turn of the century.

Sergio Aguero capatailised on some sloppy Shkodran Mustafi defending to opening the scoring early on, before veteran defender Vincent Kompany doubled the Citizen’s advantage in the second half.

David Silva then completed the scoring seven minutes later to cap-off what was a day to forget for the Gunners.

The dilemma for Arsenal fans however came not in the defeat, but in the manner in which it happened. Facing a brilliant City side – perhaps the best England has ever seen – not many could have expected Arsenal to blow away the Premier League leaders, but many were disappointed to see Arsene Wenger’s men roll over as early and as easily as they did.

Amongst the critics were club legend Ian Wright, who said his former side lacked the fight they needed to beat City on the day.

“Against Manchester City it was always going to be a tough ask. They have been magnificent all season, but it was disappointing the way Arsenal played. There was a lack of fight, lack of determination.” said Wright.

“It’s a final and players were walking. You don’t want to see the team you support in a final put in such an insipid performance.”

The defeat capped off a miserable week for the Gunners, who lost 2-1 to Swedish outfit Ostersunds in the Europa League mid-week, and now many of the Arsenal fans think it’s time for a change in North London …
