Emery Hints At Who Could Take Over From Xhaka As Arsenal Captain

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took the captain’s armband in the 1-1 draw against Wolves on Saturday. The 30-year-old was given the captaincy in the absence of Granit Xhaka.

When asked whether the forward could take on the responsibility on a regular basis, manager Unai Emery suggested that he is a candidate he would consider for the role:

It remains to be seen what will happen with Xhaka. Following the incident against Crystal Palace last week, the 27-year-old has missed games against Liverpool and Wolves with no indication as to when he will return.

He did, though, send out a message to supporters on Friday explaining his actions, but it is very difficult to predict what will happen next in terms of whether he will retain the captaincy or even return to play for the club in upcoming games.

Some pundits believe the Xhaka will be stripped of the captaincy, and it appears Aubameyang is one of the favourites to take on the mantle.
