Arsenal manager Unai Emery has refuted claims that the Gunners are interested in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Reports in Spain have suggested that the London club had made a £14.5m bid for the Costa Rican international but speaking at a pre-match press conference yesterday, Emery stated he is happy with the options at his disposal:
“Not true. We never speak about one goalkeeper because I think – and it’s true – we are very happy with the three goalkeepers we have now. We’ve never spoken about Keylor Navas.”
Petr Cech is expected to replace Bernd Leno in goal for Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round tie at Bloomfield Road tomorrow.
The 36-year-old started the season as the club’s number one but a hamstring injury in October has meant that he hasn’t started a league game since the 2-0 win over Watford in late September.
Cech’s contract expires in the summer and, so far, there hasn’t been any indication that he will be offered a new one. Third choice keeper Emiliano Martinez has also been linked with a move to Rennes in the January transfer window, fuelling speculation that a move for Navas was on the cards.
Emery’s comments have, however, cooled talk that the Gunners will make a move for a new number one this month.
