RB Leipzig are close to signing Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, according to multiple reports.
The Hungarian international has been heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal in recent months, but it appears the player will be moving to Germany in the January transfer window.
Szoboszlai looked to be a bargain transfer as he had a €25m (£22.5m) release clause and fans on Twitter are disappointed but not surprised that the Gunners have seemingly missed out on his signature:
In 5 years we will either be happy we did or did not sign szoboszlai
Edu disasterclass imo???

Dominik Szoboszlai to RB Leipzig. Arsenal can’t do anything right. Glad it wasn’t a different prem team cuz I’ve gotta watch this rise

For around $55million, RB Leipzig have brought in Dani Olmo, Cristopher Nkunku, and Dominik Szoboszlai. Three attack minded midfielders all under 24 years old. Yet I watch Arsenal week in and week out fail to show any creativity in midfield

Szoboszlai is joining Rb Leipzig, We can instead go for 22 years old Aouor but 33 years old Ericksen is also available, we all know which player Arsenal will choose from the two

Surprise surprise sell to the sister club of Salzburg then sell him for 4 times more in two years, smart business.

Thousands of Arsenal fans realize we wasted all that time learning how to spell and pronounce “Szoboszlai”.

To be honest, Arsenal are not exactly an attractive proposition at the moment, considering their position in the Premier League table. Combined with the fact that Leipzig are into the knockout stages of the Champions League and have a close relationship with their sister club Salzburg, Szoboszlai’s decision is to be expected.
Manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be looking at other targets ahead of January, though, so hopefully, Arsenal won’t regret missing out on Szoboszlai.
