Dutch Ace Speaks Out Over Potential 25M Switch To Arsenal

Ajax winger Quincy Promes has reaffirmed his commitment to the Eredivisie side amid reports that he could leave the Netherlands this summer. Last month, Arsenal were reported to be considering a £25m bid for the Dutch international but speaking out about his future, the player said he does not think it is the time to move clubs:

“Football remains football. I have my ambitions but I just got here and I want to win trophies with Ajax. I feel I am not ready to leave Ajax yet.”

The reports linking the Gunners with a move for the 28-year-old always seemed a bit odd anyway. One Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who broke the van de Beek transfer to Manchester United, has suggested that the rumours around Promes were likely the result of agents trying to generate interest in the player.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta already has plenty of options in wide areas, especially after Willian joined on a free transfer, and it’s possible that Promes was considered as a potential alternative to the Brazilian before his arrival.
