Draxler Still On Top Of Wenger’s Transfer Wish-List

Arsenal’s transfer campaign was not as successful as expected. The Gunners missed out on their main target who according to Wenger, would have been a perfect solution for the club’s current problems. Draxler despite becoming popular for his qualities as a midfielder is seen as the next Van Persie by the Frenchman, who hoped to see the German international perform next to Giroud after the 31st of January.

Unfortunately Schalke’s financial expectations were not met by Arsenal who fell short when it came to making an offer. The German side were probably looking to get close to Draxler’s buyout clause which is rumored at £37 but will not be activated until the summer transfer window.

The 20 year old will most likely end up at the Emirates next to his compatriots. With Ozil, Podolski, Mertesacker and Gnabry already starting to form a strong group and with Wenger’s tendency to favor young players, Draxler could not find a better match for his future needs. According to Metro, Arsenal’s chances to sign the German international will also increase once the summer transfer window is open because of the fact that Schalke will have a lot more options for finding a replacement.

Until then, the Gunners will have to settle for Kim Kallstrom whose condition is not yet certain. Some back problems will prevent him from performing against Liverpool, Man. United and Bayern Munich.
