Dortmund Name Price For Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Could Arsenal Be Tempted?

It is hard to tell if or when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will leave Dortmund. The team has an incredible attacking line right now and has all the players they need to compete with any adversary in the world. Arsenal have been linked to the speedy striker on several occasions but nothing materialized. It was either the price or the wrong moment but nothing serious has ever come of rumours around the much sought-after no.9. According to the Telegraph, Wenger might be able to sign Aubameyang as Dortmund’s executive chief Hans-Joachim Watzke stated the following:

“Auba was our alternative to ‘the world ending’ after [Robert] Lewandowski’s departure. With an €80 million offer, I would be thinking about [club president] Reinhard Rauball and [sporting director] Michael Zorc – if we had one, we would have to get together with Pierre-Emerick.

“We always have to differentiate between situations where there is such an offer, but we have no pressure … I would prefer it if no offer came.”

Basically, Watzke made Aubameyang’s price public. The €80million translates into £68million which would make the Gabon international not only Arsenal’s most expensive transfer in history but also the 6th most expensive player in the world. It is hard to believe that at this point in time Wenger will pay that much money for a striker considering the circumstances (the attack is probably the most productive part of the team right now). For that amount of money Arsenal can do many things and it is hard to see the Gunners doing a deal of this size for a striker given their options these days.

Looking at the big picture, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is playing Champions League football on a very good side so it seems like the only move he would make would be to one of the Spanish giants unless he was tempted by a huge money offer from China.
