Does Wenger Really Know What He Is Doing With Young Sanogo?

As the January transfer deadline day ended and Arsenal had only an injured Kim Kallstrom to show for their efforts, the issue escalated quickly in the media who made a lot of Arsenal’s failed attempt to sign a striker. The issue was being addressed as a calamity, and the French manager came in for quite a lot of stick from pundits and fans.

What made things worse was the fact that free summer signing, 21-year old Yaya Sanogo’s name featured on the team sheet against Liverpool in the FA Cup – perhaps the tournament which Arsenal could very well win. Taking a gamble with a young striker who is making his full debut, that too against a team who mauled them 5-1 not so long ago was something which stumped everyone.

However, that was not the case when he was being taken off in the second half. The entire Emirates Stadium rose to applause Sanogo’s efforts, who had a part to play in Arsenal’s first goal and was a constant menace for two established internationals in Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel.

Seeing his performance, Metro are forced to think whether Wenger was right all along; whether his decision to not bring a new striker was indeed, the right thing to do. What do you think?

Sanogo backed up his Liverpool performance with what most people thought was a 7/10 performance vs Bayern after being chosen ahead of Podoski and the disgraced Giroud.
