Do The Fans Have A Point?

This summer is set to be one of the most interesting transfer periods in Arsenal’s history. After 8 years of missing out on every trophy, the Gunners are set to have Arsene Wenger build a combative, competition winning team. Even though the Frenchman has not yet signed an extension to his current deal, it looks like he will be running the show at the Emirates for a long time to come.

When the reports hit the news that Wenger will have millions to invest over the summer, many Gunners’ fans started expressing opinions on how money should be spent. It is well known that Arsenal have some of the most passionate supporters in the world who have been following the club for decades now, many of whom are incredibly well informed. Keeping that in mind, some of their suggestions regarding transfers are definitely worth a look.

One of our readers, Matt had a great list of suggested targets for the Gunners to acquire in his comment on one of our recent Arsenal transfer news stories. He pointed out that to solidify the goal-keeping position The Gunners should definitely go after Victor Valdez who could be free to leave Barca for £10 million, which is excellent considering his age and vast experience. Valdez would bring a lot to the table and definitely increase confidence levels as far as the defensive line goes. Moving forward, Arsenal’s fan also suggested an interesting alternative for strengthening the entire team backbone. Mertesacker, who has proven to be a tad too slow for the Premier League, should be an effective trading piece that could bring Matt Hummels to Emirates. Mikel Arteta, who is one of the fans’ favorites, also falls short of Matt’s list who considers the Spaniard is not the answer for Arsenal’s future and that Argentinian Lucas Biglia should take his place.

Last but not least, it seems that one player has made many fans’ wish-lists. Swansea’s Michu who has had an incredible season looks like a perfect fit for the Gunners’ attacking line. He has the potential to be a future Arsenal star even though he is the only one mentioned who will still be under contract at the end of the season. The 26 year old number 9 just signed an extension this January with Swansea but it looks like his great form will bring new offers and some tempting opportunities.
