Former goalkeeper turned pundit Shaka Hislop has called on Arsenal to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey as soon as possible.
Reports in England claim that the Gunners are considering an approach for the Ghanaian international, who has a €50m (£46m) release clause, and Hislop says they should pull out all the stops to sign the La Liga star:
“Thomas Partey has been outstanding for the last two years at the very least. If you’re Arsenal and you can somehow prise Partey away from Atletico Madrid, absolutely you do it all day every day.”
“He sits in front of the back four, I’m still not sure that there are many better box-to-box midfielders in the game. If you get this done, do it now, do it quick.”
As Hislop mentions, the main question would be whether Thomas is a realistic target for Arsenal. The London club are unlikely to be able to offer Champions League football next season, unlike Atletico.
However, there could be other factors in play. The midfielder has spent his entire career in Spain and he may be looking for a new challenge.
On top of that, Arsenal could offer him a sizeable wage increase on what he is currently earning at the Wanda Metropolitano, but in saying that, the Gunners will also have to fight off other interested parties for his signature.
