Do Arsenal Really Need Another World Class Striker?

Frenchman, Olivier Giroud arrived at the club during a time where there was a huge cloud of uncertainty regarding Robin van Persie’s future hovering above the club. The Dutchman eventually left, putting all the pressure on the £13 million man from French champions Montpellier to fill his shoes. After a rather slow start to life at the Emirates Stadium, he hit the ground running and scored 17 goals in all competitions in his debut season.

That output for a debutant was quite impressive, but still did not do enough to convince the fans that he is perhaps the man who can single handedly lead from the front. As a result, Arsenal went shopping for a top class striker, and their relentless pursuit of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez showed their intentions. They were even briefly linked with Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Though none of these deals came through, Giroud remained the main man at the club. Through this time, he has managed to win everyone over so early in the season already. Since opening the scoring against Aston Villa in the season opener, he has come far and has already scored his 8th goal of the season after he headed in late on against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Those points not only assured them the three points, but also sent a strong message to their rivals, stating that Arsenal are willing to slog it out for every 3 points this time around, the hunger which was sometimes missing in previous seasons.

Also, Daily Mail believe that the manner in which Giroud scored the goal showed his determination and willingness to fight till the very end. His warrior instincts were on showcase as he battled alone up front, even when Arsenal were being put under pressure at times. His tireless efforts saw him sprint through and head home, even in the dying stages of the game.

The French international has definitely come a long way in these 2 years, and it is probably time to put this question across. Do Arsenal still need world class strikers like Suarez or Rooney, even though they have one world class striker in the form of Giroud?
