Diego Costa to Arsenal?

Diego Costa looks set to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer after being told he is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans for the new season. But could Arsenal be Costa’s next club?

It is alleged that Conte informed the striker via text that he had no future at the club, but no club is yet to strike a deal with the Spanish international.

Atletico Madrid are believed to be Costa’s favoured destination, but due to their transfer ban, any deal for the forward would not be able to be completed until 2018.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the Gunners should try and take the 28-year-old from Chelsea, but says the transfer would be ‘unlikely’.

“To be honest, as fanciful and unlikely as it may be, I’d also like to see Arsenal at least dipping their toe in the water for Diego Costa as well.” said Wright.

“For all the talk of him going back to Spain, nothing’s been done yet, so at least ask the question.”

“Because for all he can be troublesome, he is also a brilliant, proven Prem goalscorer.”

Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata as a replacement for Costa in a club record deal, but the forward has had a tough start to life in London, more recently missing a penalty against Arsenal in the Community Shield. Wright believes the Blues could come to regret letting Costa leave for an unproven Premier League striker.

“I’m not going to make judgments on Alvaro Morata after one sub appearance, because he has scored goals at the very top level,” the former striker told The Sun.

“But with Costa you were guaranteed goals. With Morata, you’re just hoping he will adapt to life in England and, at £65m, that’s a very expensive roll of the dice.”

Should Arsenal make an enquiry about Diego Costa?
