Dennis Bergkamp On His Arrival To Arsenal

With transfer rumours surrounding Emirates, Dennis Bergkamp spoke about his first contact with what was going to become the team closest to his heart. The Dutchman arrived from Inter Milan back in 1995 and became a club legend. He stayed with the Gunners for 11 years and managed 87 goals in his 315 appearances. He retired from Arsenal and refused to continue with the club after being offered a scouting job.

Recently the Dutchman answered a few questions about some passages that were part of his book called Stillness and Speed. The interest in his book grew as most people now see a lot of potential in Arsenal’s youthful team and are starting to compare it to that which included names like Dennis Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Petit and David Seaman.

According to Metro, the Dutch international first realised his transfer to Arsenal was complete when he saw his name on television. It was written in huge letters that Dennis Bergkamp joined the Gunners. It was a unique feeling he said. His transfer fee was £7.5million which turned out to be one of the most profitable deals Arsenal have ever made.

Hopefully Ozil will have the same great impact the Dutchman had when he came to play for the North London team. The German international is young and very talented. He might be the missing piece that kept the team from winning a trophy for the past few years.

Bergkamp also spoke about his doubts and the excitement he felt when he finally realised he was living in London now. Even with his declared love for Arsenal, he decided to stay in Holland. One of the main reasons for which he refused to stay in the UK and work as a scout for the Gunners was the fact that he suffered from Aerophobia which is fear of flying. This made it impossible for him to move from place to place which is exactly what a scout should do. He even had problems with Wenger because he refused to get on a plane and chose to travel by car and train on several occasions.
