The 2014 FA Cup winners are set to announce their first major signing with the acquisition of Debuchy from Newcastle United later this week. The French international will be Arsene Wenger’s first signing of the summer with deals for Lars Bender and Alexis Sanchez in the pipeline.

Debuchy is expected to undergo a medical this week as he prepares to switch to north London from Newcastle. The final transfer fee will hinge upon the option to include Joel Campbell in the deal. Even Carl Jenkinson could be used as a makeweight in the deal.

Arsenal have lost first-choice right-back Bacary Sagna to Manchester City and Wenger does not believe Jenkinson is ready to make the step up on a full-time basis. Micah Richards was a possibility but Wenger has acted swiftly to negotiate a deal with the Magpies for 28-year-old Debuchy despite many people thinking that Serge Aurier would be the man to be signed by Wenger as Sagna’s replacement but clearly the manager likes the more experienced Frenchman.
