‘Deal done’ for Lucas Torreira says Italian media

Lucas Torreira’s move to Arsenal is done, according to the Italian press.

The Sampdoria midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to North London over the past few weeks, however a deal is yet to be announced with Torreira currently at the World Cup with Uruguay.

However Italian newspaper Il SecoloXIX, which is based in Genoa where Torreira plays his club football, claim the deal taking him to Arsenal is now ‘done’ and an announcement can be expected in the coming days.

The deal is believed to worth around £24 million, however Arsenal will pay £8 million in each of the next three summers to spread the cost.

Unai Emery was given only £50 million to spend by Arsenal owner Stan Kronke this summer, and the deal for Torreira is in-keeping with the Spaniard’s tight budget.

Torreira will become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer when the deal is announced, after the Gunners already completed moves for both Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno.

Lichtsteiner joined from Juventus on a free transfer, while Leno completed a £22.5 million switch from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal are also expected to be close to completing a £17.6 million move for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
