Arsenal are the “only team” that can prevent Manchester City from retaining the Premier League title, according to David Silva.
The former City player says Pep Guardiola’s side are “almost unstoppable”, but he believes the Gunners are the club that have the best chance of challenging them this season:
“This is Pep’s eighth season at City. The first year he was getting used to the Premier League, but now they are almost unstoppable. Arsenal are the only team I can see who maybe have a chance of challenging City. The rest? I don’t think they can.”
The likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham have also had good starts but, like Arsenal, they have already fallen two points behind the reigning champions, who have a 100% record so far.
Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea, meanwhile, have already dropped a lot of points in their first four games and it would be a surprise if any of them get back into contention for top spot.
Arsenal’s win against Manchester United will give the squad a lot of belief
The Gunners’s victory at the weekend, after two late goals in injury time, was reminiscent of some of the last-gasp wins that the team managed in their title charge last season.
It should be remembered that Mikel Arteta’s men could have lost to the Red Devils if Alejandro Garnacho’s goal hadn’t been ruled out for offside late on. As it was, they secured the 3 points, which could prove to be pivotal in their fight with City down the line.
City are relentless
With Arsenal having already dropped points against Fulham, giving more away to United could have seriously damaged their title aspirations even this early in the season.
They will have to be pretty much perfect if they want to finish top of the table as City won’t let up in their pursuit of another league trophy.
