Arsenal may look to sign a midfielder before the transfer window closes after it emerged that Mohamed Elneny has suffered a “significant injury”, according to David Ornstein.
Co-writing a piece with James McNicholas for The Athletic, the trusted journalist claims the setback suffered by Elneny will be seen as a “major blow” for the Gunners:
🚨 Mohamed Elneny suffered significant injury vs Fulham. Arsenal awaiting full extent but 30yo expected to miss considerable spell. Partey also nursing (relatively minor) muscle issue so #AFC may look to recruit in midfield. With @gunnerblog @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/8b567oDygj

It is not currently known how long Elneny will be out for but initial estimates suggest he could be sidelined for a while. With that being the case, Ornstein claims it could see the club “pivot” in regards to their transfer plans.
Technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta were expected to devote their efforts to signing a winger ahead of the transfer deadline, but things could now change.
With Elneny being a holding midfielder, it wouldn’t suggest a move for someone like Youri Tielemans is likely. A player such as Brighton’s Moises Caicedo or, perhaps Wolves’ Ruben Neves, would be better suited.
