Crooks Likens Torreira’s ‘Drive and Influence’ To Former Arsenal Great

TV pundit Garth Crooks has likened Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira to ex-Gunners star Emmanuel Petit.

The Uruguayan international scored the winning goal against Huddersfield at the weekend with a well-executed overhead kick, but it is the combative midfielder’s overall game that has impressed Crooks:

“Torreira was the difference between Arsenal and Spurs in the recent derby and has the drive and influence of an Emmanuel Petit. Torreira’s performance against Huddersfield was once again in that class”

Torreira has been nothing short of a revelation since his £26m move from Sampdoria in the summer. His energy on and off the ball, and his ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck has been hugely impressive.

The 22-year-old has been gradually bedded in to the Premier League by manager Unai Emery but it is has been clear from the outset that the midfielder is well suited to the English game.

Whether Torreira will make the same impact that Petit did at Arsenal, we shall have to wait and see, but it certainly couldn’t have gone a lot better for the talented Uruguayan.
