Could Wenger Win The Title Without Further Transfers?

Unfortunately Arsenal’s management recently admitted to the fact that the club has not yet reached the financial level that allows them to risk spending big on players who have yet to make an impression in strong championships. Bringing in Ozil or Sanchez is one thing but signing someone like Lacazette is something else. Basically if the offer does not match the price, Wenger is not willing to overbid to secure a new player. Xhaka was special as all three sides – Clubs, player, agent – agreed on terms.

We’ve looked into a group of low-cost solutions for Arsenal since according to ESPN, the Lacazette deal seems to have been cut out of the transfer list and many other moves over £20million look out of reach. Then came the game against the MLS All-Stars, where Wenger used all the players who could represent a solution for next season and managd to lead Arsenal to a slim 2-1 win. One could not start to wonder if it would not be best for Wenger to go back in time and give chances to those who are homegrown. Back in 2004 when the Gunners finished the Premier League undefeated and won the trophy, Wenger used: Senderos – 18; Toure – 22, A. Cole – 22, G. Clichy – 17, C. Fabregas – 16, J. Reyes – 19. While the big victories were delivered mainly by Pires, Henry, Vieira, Kewon and/or Campbell, the youngsters played their role in finishing on top. The idea is that back then, just like now, Arsenal did not have the best all-star squad and depended on high-class players plus those who were eager to prove themselves. Why not apply the same philosophy right now?

Taking a look at the squad it`s obvious an additional striker and a defender would do some good but at the same time why not give players like Akpom, Iwobi, Chambers and Holding the chances of their lifetime. Next to Cech, Koscielny, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez, Cazorla and Giroud they could do a whole lot better than any signing under £20million. And one more thing; why not invest money in the medical staff or in any technology that could help Wenger’s players stay away from injury? Everyone knows that if the Gunners would go through an entire season closer to 100% fit, they would be right up there with a big chance to win the title. With a little luck and again with key players staying away from injury, Wenger’s current lot can be more than efficient and could well really challenge for the top honours.
