He has won all the major trophies there are to win in club football in Europe – Champions League and Premier league immediately come to mind. The only reason why he has not enjoyed greater success during his 113 caps so far for the undeniably talented Czech Republic national side is the qualities of the rest of the team has not managed to always deliver at the same times at the big tournaments although they have had a few decent runs during his international career most notably in UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine where the side which he captained made the quarter-finals before losing to Portugal by a late Cristiano Ronaldo goal. Many would argue that in a better international side Cech would have helped to deliver wins in big games and trophies as he is capable of that one unbelievable save to give his team a life or maintain their lead – he is that good and is a genuine big game keeper who is super-consistent on top of that.

Petr Cech has played in the Premier League for 11 seasons appearing in 333 games, winning 4 Premier League Crowns, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 FA Community Shields, 1 Champions League and 1 Europa League. The fact that he has become 2nd choice on any team is a travesty and it had to take a goalkeeper who is neck and neck with David De Gea as arguably the top 2 keepers in the World in Thibaut Courtois to have him sitting on the bench for the bulk of the Premier League season although as the Capital One Cup keeper he did of course help his team win the competition this season – you can’t stop winners! The man is something special and he is definitely a major improvement over both Wojciech Tomasz Szczęsny and David Ospina although I do like the Columbian and he think he is a great number 2 who could be the next number one but to significantly upgrade any key position I think has to be done particularly when the fee will not break the bank and while the wages might need to be on the higher side they would not be out of sight. The deal is definitely do-able for Arsenal from a financial perspective. Whether Chelsea will sell to them is another but Cech could have a lot of sway here.

I think Arsene Wenger would be wise to add the significant winning experience of a top-class keeper who still has many years to play and for a relatively reasonable financial outlay. Cech could give that genuine upgrade to the goalkeeping, winning those few key points over a season and adding to that real winning attitude in the dressing room which with the FA Cups wins over the past 2 seasons is growing – perhaps into something special. When you think of what Edwin Van Der Sar did for United why can’t Cech do the same for the Gunners?
