Could Robben Be Right About Wilshere?

Could Robben Be Right About Wilshere?

This summer is going to be a massive turning point for Arsenal. They are either going to become strong competitors for all the competitions, or they will lose some important players and end up with yet another frustrating season just like the one that is about to end. Wenger, according to his own statements, is currently working bound by a short term agreement as his current deal with Arsenal is due to end in 2014. This translates to the fact that there is no trophy in sight for the near future and the Gunners have directed all their attention to finishing in the top 4 and Champions League qualification. If they manage to qualify, most of the £150 million coming from the Emirates sponsorship deal will be directed towards buying some top players who can help lead the team to success in any competition. If they fail, chances are a couple of key footballers will leave, in search for glory elsewhere.

There have been many rumors that indicate Arsenal’s players are not happy with the fact that they are always falling short of wining important matches and that chances are other teams could sound more tempting at the end of this season. In recent news, Arjen Robben has expressed his opinions on one of England’s most promising players, Jack Wilshere. Bayern’s player who had the chance of playing against Arsenal’s midfielder in their Champions League encounter, said that it will be hard for the Gunners to keep such a player if they offer no real chance of success in the future.

Wilshere was not around in 2005 when Arsenal won their last trophy and has been playing without experiencing true glory as yet. This problem was pointed about by Robben who said even though the English international is young, he has been around for quite some time now and it is about time for him to have his efforts rewarded in other ways, not just financially.

Arsenal’s midfielder renewed his contract this December and is seen as the Gunner’s future captain. Fans are not sure what to think, considering their team’s recent way of dealing with outgoing transfers. Fabregas, Song and many others left because they wanted more and Wenger failed to convince them they should stay. What is to say the same won’t happen with Wilshere or Vermaelen? There is a lot of insecurity around Emirates Stadium and the fog will probably be lifted at the end of the season when we will know for sure if Wenger will extend his contract and if the promised investments will be made.
