Could Overmars Be A Part Of Arsenal’s Rebirth?

It seems like Arsenal have high hopes for all that is to come, not just from a player transfer perspective. One of the biggest names that played for the Gunners has recently stated that he would be very much open to working at the Emirates as part of the team’s coaching staff. Former Dutch international Marc Overmars shared his vision about his involvement in football and implied that Arsenal could be a future destination of his.

Marc Overmars is currently a technical director for Ajax. He was only appointed during the summer of 2012 and declared he is very happy with his new job. The Dutchman will probably stay there for a while. It is his first important position within a major European club and he says he has a lot to learn. The 39 year old former Arsenal midfielder was with the Gunners for three years, for whom he scored 25 goals in 101 appearances. Overmars helped Arsenal win three major competitions one of which was the 1997-1998 Premier League.

Overmars said that he realized what direction he was headed in during his last years as a professional player. He said that being a manager was not his thing so he quickly reoriented his attention to his current activity.

The former Dutch international made a reference to Arsenal while being asked about his present job. He explained that he is now in charge of Ajax’s transfers and scouting staff, and that an organizational spot is what suits him best. Overmars said that even though he had not discussed the possibility of him joining the Gunners with Arsene Wenger, he is confident he will make a future list of possible candidates.

For now Overmars is happy working for his Ajax where he scored 36 goals in 135 appearances during a stellar playing stint there. While talking about Arsenal, the Dutchman compared Tottenham’s star, Gareth Bale with the Gunners’ legend, Thierry Henry. He said that a player such as Bale will probably make the difference between the Arsenal and Spurs as they fight for a place in next year’s Champions League. Although Overmars is an Arsenal fan, he believes Bale could be the extra edge needed to win trophies and stay on top as Henry so often was in the past.
