Could Krul Be The Goalkeeper For Arsenal?

Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul has spoken about his comeback from a dislocated shoulder injury, and the Arsenal target revealed that his recovery is on schedule ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign.

Arsene Wenger has been on the hunt for multiple positions in his squad, and the goalkeeping spot is one that has been under immense speculation over the past few months. The Gunners accepted an offer from Sunderland for squad-rotation keeper Vito Mannone, who has been rumored to be unsettled at the lack of first team football at the Emirates Stadium. The current goalkeeping pair at the club is lead by Poland international keeper Wojciech Szczesny, who has been under the spotlight for poor consistency in his performances last season. Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski had been the other two squad keepers, but with Mannone’s departure, Wenger is left with only two options, and will look to sign another keeper this summer.

Krul’s development at Newcastle has been tremendous over the past few years, and has grown into one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has to offer. The left handed shot stopper is one of the main reasons for Newcastle’s consistent survival in the league, and has been targeted by Arsenal in the past. The Gunners gave up the chase for Krul due to the emergence of Szczesny as number one, but with the Polish keeper causing controversy on and off the pitch, Wenger is ready to revive interest in goalkeeping targets.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has been full of praise for the 25-year old Krul, and has attracted interest from multiple clubs in Europe. Krul’s international career with Netherlands has also kicked off in style, after he made his debut for Louis van Gaal’s squad in 2011.

Krul began his career at Dutch club ADO Den Haag in 1996, and in less than a decade later, was scouted by the Magpies, who deployed Krul in their youth squad. With loan spells at Falkirk and Carlisle United, Krul soon took over as the number one at St. James Park.

According to DailyMail, Krul said, “I will be fit for the first game of the season.”

“I’ll try to get a couple of friendly games to get myself fully up to speed — and I’m right on schedule.”

So it seems Krul is focused on Newcastle for now but could Arsenal and the lure of Champions League football turn his head?
