Could Chicharito Be On Arsenal’s Radar?

“You never know what happens in football. In years gone by I have left my club on the last day of the transfer window. I thought I would stay in Madrid and I thought I would stay in Manchester but I joined Leverkusen in the end.”  Javier Hernandez said recently in regards to his future according to Metro.

The Mexican international who turned 28 back in June was reportedly of interest to Wenger back when Welbeck joined and has improved his game considerably since then. It was hard to see him reach his full potential while competing with players like Benzema or Rooney who barely gave Chicharito a chance to play more than 10 back-to-back games in a season. Signing with Leverkusen allowed the striker to mature and prove he is more than capable of being consistent in his performances as a No.9. He has the experience and proved capable of scoring against teams like Barcelona and Roma in the Champions League. He stayed away from injury last season and averaged a goal every two games. He brings a different style to the table when compared to Giroud which is exactly what Arsenal need. While the Frenchman is excellent against slow defenders and is very strong on his feet, Chicharito is the kind of guy you need for fast plays and getting in behind the defense. Signing the Mexican striker would be much more productive than improvising with Walcott or Sanchez especially now that the England international stated he is no longer keen on playing as a striker.  Hernandez is focused on scoring and has always known where his place on the pitch is. What is even better and makes this transfer more plausible is the player’s price tag. Leverkusen paid £10.20m in order to secure the Mexican international until 2018 but it seems for him it was just a short term affair took on in order to jumpstart his career.

While Lacazette may sound a lot more impressive, Hernandez has the Premier League experience. Thinking of what Gazidis said regarding risk taking, Chicharito sounds like the most likely choice out of the two. It could be a good move to see the Mexican at the Emirates as he could offer a different option to Arsenal.
