Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio has been offered to Arsenal and could still join the London club before the transfer window closes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims that the Spaniard’s agent Jorge Mendes has spoken to the Gunners and Manchester United about the player’s availability in the last couple of weeks.
While United are unlikely to make a move for Asensio, after recruiting Antony from Ajax, Romano says a switch to the Emirates can’t be ruled out ahead of Thursday’s deadline:
“For Arsenal, there are no direct negotiations with Real Madrid but the relationship with Jorge Mendes is always very good so it could be a last minute idea.”
Asensio would be a cheaper option than the likes of Wolves’ Pedro Neto and Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino, with it being suggested Real Madrid may only hold out for around £23.5m.
The 26-year-old has less than twelve months remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu and the La Liga champions fear that he could leave on a free transfer next year. Whether his low price tag will tempt Arsenal into making a bid, we shall have to wait and see.
