Could Arsenal Sign Sergio Aguero In Swap Deal For Their Main Man?

Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero – there have been reports of a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez joining the Citizens and Aguero joining the Gunners. The Argentine has long been regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, and has performed at the highest level consistently in the 6 years he has spent at City – scoring an impressive 122 goals in 180 appearances. We all know how well respected Alexis Sanchez is.

However Manchester City are rumoured to be chasing Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangmay this summer, and having Gabriel Jesus in their ranks already, it could leave Aguero without a regular starting place.

Arsenal are constantly linked with a deal for a new striker, and this summer is no different. A whole host of names including Mbappe and Lacazette have been mentioned, but news of Aguero potentially joining the Gunners has been relatively quiet. However, with City desperate to land Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, hence Sergio Aguero could be used as a bargaining tool.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes that a transfer could be very possible, but admits Aguero would have his pick of other top European clubs.

Speaking about Aguero’s situation, Nicol said that it would make sense for the striker to join Arsenal if he was not considered a starter by Pep Guardiola.

“I don’t think he wants to stay at City if Gabriel Jesus is going to play ahead of him,” Nicol told ESPN.

“At the same time, he’s a world class striker. There are some big teams out there who I believe would want him. Do they have space right now? I don’t think so, Bayern certainly don’t need him, Madrid don’t need him, Barcelona don’t need him, PSG have Cavani.”

“So if he wants to move maybe Arsenal is his best choice at the moment. Is it possible? Yes it is. It’s up to the two sides to get together and I don’t see why Wenger wouldn’t want it, I don’t see why Pep wouldn’t want it. So really, it comes down to finance.”

The transfer does seem a bit far fetched, with Aguero and City showing no indication that they are ready to split. But Nicol seems convinced that a move would suit all parties.
