Could Arsenal Make Shock Bid For Fernando Torres?

Could Arsenal Make Shock Bid For Fernando Torres?

Arsenal are one of the most busiest clubs in this transfer window, as they have been linked with at least 5 top quality players in the previous weeks. They are thought to be very close to finalizing the transfer of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and are also interested in Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, having launched a £20 million bid for him only 2 nights ago.

Manager Arsene Wenger is not quite convinced that he will be able to successfully complete the deal for Rooney, and is instead looking at a second choice in the form of Torres if the deal for Rooney does not work out. Wenger wants to bring in two top quality strikers to add to Olivier Giroud in what will definitely become one of the most fearsome attacks in Europe, let alone in England.

Torres only recently found his feet for Chelsea in the final few weeks of the previous season and has carried his form into the Confederations Cup where he played in the final against Brazil. Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho does not see Torres in his immediate plans for next season and could therefore very well offload him to raise funds in his chase of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Zenit St. Petesburg’s Hulk.

This is where Arsenal are stepping in, as Metro reports that Wenger is looking to complete a shock swoop for the striker and to pair him up with Higuain in a new look attack for the Gunners next season. The financial aspect of Torres’ possible switch to Arsenal will also not pose a problem, given the fact that Arsenal currently boast a healthy £70 million in their bank, and are finally willing to raise their wage ceiling in order to land world-class players in their bid to win silverware next season.

Do you, by any chance, see this deal happening in the coming weeks? Or will Arsenal somehow manage to land Rooney and instead pair him up with Higuain? This story is surely one to do the rounds in the press for the next several days.
