Could Arsenal Be After £30m Rated Champions League Finalist?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly made the signing of a striker a top priority this summer. And top of his wish list is former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata who was team mates with Mesut Ozil when both were at Real Madrid. Arsenal have been linked to the signing of Morata for some time, he was said to be close to join Arsenal before Real Madrid sold him to Juventus. And if you believe reports from both the British and the Italian media, the Gunners are still very much interested in signing the Spaniard and will try to convince Real Madrid to sell him to the Gunners this summer. Whether Morata is the type of stiker Arsenal need is a different question.

The Telegraph reports that Real Madrid have a buy back clause inserted in the striker’s clause when they were selling him to Juventus which they will be activating this summer with the hope of selling him to Arsenal. After having bought Ozil from Real Madrid, Arsenal seems to have established a good relationship with Real Madrid which Wenger reportedly will take advantage of to get Morata from the ten times UEFA Champions League winners.

The deal is however complicated by the fact that the player could choose to remain at Juventus and if the Old Lady decide to give Real Madrid more money for the striker and if that happens, Arsenal will surely lose out. If the report by the Telegraph is true, Real Madrid will sell him to Arsenal for £30 million which is just £6 million higher than how much they will have to pay Juventus to buy him back. Which means Juventus could decide to just pay Real Madrid £6 million more and keep the player.

Only time will tell exactly how this rumour will pan out but maybe Wenger will pursue a guaranteed goal-scorer which perhaps Morata is not as he only has 14 goals in his 59 game Juventus career. There may well be more attactive options out there who have Premier League experience too.
