Controversial Frimpong Involved In Twitter Row

Even though manager Arsene Wenger fielded a second string squad and a relatively young side, given the fact that Arsenal have key clashes coming up, it was expected that Frimpong might feature tonight; but he was overlooked completely and did not even make the bench. Arsenal fans took to Twitter and while connecting with the Frenchman, asked him the reason for his failure to make it to the squad. Frimpong innocently and comically replied saying because he is not white and English.

His tweet said, “Lol I wanna laugh. Sometimes I wish I was white and English #realtalk.”

This tweet from his personal verified account stirred things up in no time, and he was forced to take that tweet off and in response, tweet saying “Look whatever you read tomorrow has majorly been twisted. Is a joke what people will do to start controversy goodnight people.”

Social media is definitely a great way to express your own views, but also a poor choice of words can put someone in trouble, in this case Frimpong. There were also some mentions suggesting that Arsenal will not take this comment lightly and that a strong, strong punishment is due shortly, according to the Daily Mail.

This is not the first time Frimpong has been in the news for non-footballing reasons, he was previously charged with improper conduct and fined £6,000 by the FA after a comment aimed at a Tottenham fan in 2012. Since then, subsequent loan moves to Wolves, Charlton and Fulham followed, and the 21-year old has since struggled to get into the squad.
