Cole Speaks Out On Why Arsenal Are “Miles Behind” Tottenham And United

BT pundit Joe Cole thinks Arsenal are a long way behind their other top-six rivals when it comes to the strength of their squad.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder says he still believes the Gunners have the draw to sign top talent, but they are currently trailing behind the likes of rivals Tottenham and Chelsea:

“Arsenal will always be able to bring players in because of the name, because it’s in London and the stature of the club, players will want to play for Arsenal. Traditionally they play good football, but again I think it’s a long road for them. I think they’re miles behind Chelsea and Tottenham, Man United, Man City. Man United seem to be coming back, it’s a long road for Arsenal.”

Heda coach Mikel Arteta certainly has a big rebuilding job on his hands. The defeat to Olympiakos in the Europe League last week demonstrates the scale of the task but Cole is exaggerating in terms of how far they are behind their rivals.

Arsenal may well be tenth in the table on 37 points, but they have lost just six league games this campaign, less than the likes of Chelsea, United and Spurs. They are also just three points off their fierce North London rivals. The task will be to start converting more draws into victories and creating a strong foundation for the future.
