Chris Wheatley Confirms 38M Rated Ligue One Star ‘Is Being Monitored’ By Arsenal And 2 Other PL Clubs

Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle United are all keeping tabs on Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to Football.London’s Chris Wheatley.

The website’s Gunners correspondent, who is generally pretty reliable, says that, while a move in the January transfer window is unlikely, Mikel Arteta’s side hold a longstanding interest in the Brazilian:

As Wheatley also mentions, Guimaraes’s representatives are Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian. The pair are currently sounding out potential buyers for the player, and their good working relationship with Arsenal’s technical director Edu means the London club may have an edge over Everton and Newcastle.

Guimaraes won’t be available on the cheap, though, with Lyon looking for a fee in the region of £38m. The Gunners could do with strengthening their options in midfield, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles moving to Roma on loan, but a deal for Guimaraes is not thought to be imminent.

Reports suggest that Arteta may rely on promising youngster Charlie Patino between now and the end of the season if he is short of numbers.
