Chelsea consider move for out-of-favour Arsenal star

Chelsea are ready to launch a last minute bid for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Blues are desperate to bolster their options up top before the end of the month, with Alvaro Morata struggling for form and Michy Batshuayi widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the coming days.

Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Edin Dzeko are just a few of the names linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, however with no such deals prevailing, they will now turn their attention to Giroud.

Chelsea are thought to prefer to take the Frenchman on-loan, however Arsenal would rather sell – though only if they can bring in a striker before the end of the transfer market.

Talks between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are ongoing over the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, however the Bundesliga side are reluctant to sell, having rejected two bids from the Gunners already.

Any deal involving Giroud would depend on the arrival of Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who Arsenal are currently in talks to sign.

There has also been talk of a potential swap deal involving Giroud for the Gabon international, which would see the Arsenal star move to Germany as a makeweight for Aubameyang in a cash plus player deal.

Giroud was heavily linked with a move away from The Emirates in the summer, and given the option between the two clubs, he is understood to prefer a switch to Chelsea having already stated his desire to remain in London.

The France international – who is desperate for more regular playing time ahead of the world cup this summer – has made only one Premier League start for Arsenal this season, and only 10 in all competitions, scoring seven goals.
