Charles Watts Dashes Hopes That Arsenal Could Seal 46M Transfer Before Window Closes

Lille striker Jonathan David won’t be moving clubs during the January transfer window, according to Goal‘s Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts.

The Gunners, along with Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham are said to be interested in the Canadian international, but Watts believes the forward is unlikely to leave Lille before the summer:

“Jonathan David, we know Arsenal like him. From what I understand, he won’t be leaving in January. He will be leaving in the summer.”

David reportedly has a €55m (£46m) asking price, which would have made him a lot cheaper than Arsenal’s other striker targets.

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is thought to be valued at €70m (£58.4m), Real Sociedad are unwilling to sell Alexander Isak for below his €90m (£75m) release clause, while Everton value Dominic Calvert-Lewin at around £60m.

With the club’s options narrowing, there is an increasing likelihood that the Gunners will opt for a short-term solution. Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic is reportedly available on loan so we shall see if the London club do make a move for the Serbian before Monday’s deadline.
