Charles Watts Confirms That In Form Arsenal Star Is “Set On Leaving” At The End Of The Season

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is unlikely to sign a new contract with the Gunners despite being handed more game time in recent weeks, according to journalist Charles Watts.

Goal’s Arsenal correspondent claims that the player and his agent have not changed their stance on leaving the Emirates, meaning it is almost certain that the forward will move on a free transfer when his current deal expires in June:

“I don’t think they [Arsenal] will [convince him to change stay] because he’s rejected plenty of contracts in the last sort of six months to a year, that Arsenal put in front of him.”

“So I think him and his agent’s mind seems to be pretty set on leaving, which does feel like a bit of a shame potentially given the way he’s playing at the moment. But he’s put himself in the shop window.”

Crystal Palace tried to sign Nketiah during the January transfer window and Patrick Vieira’s side are expected to be favourites to snap up the 22-year-old. There is also said to be interest from Brighton and West Ham, whilst Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach have also tracked him in the past.

As Watts says, it will be a shame if Nketiah goes, especially considering his recent good form but, with the Gunners targeting two new strikers this summer, he probably feels that he will get more first-team opportunities elsewhere.
