Cazorla Looking To Build On Excellent First Season

Santi Cazorla has claimed that Arsenal have got over their confidence issues, and will pose a threat to opposition teams in the Barclays Premier League next season.

Arsene Wenger will be delighted at the impact that Cazorla has had over the squad, as the Spaniard created havoc in Premier League defences last season. The midfielder was part of a group of players that arrived at the club after the departure of skipper Robin van Persie to Manchester United last season. The club had a stop-start season in the league, but eventually managed to bag UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day.

Critics and some sections of the supporters suggested that van Persie’s exit would reduce the chances of regular Champions League qualification, given the constant growth shown by Tottenham Hotspur and other top four clubs. However, Cazorla and his team mates have proved many critics wrong by winning the fourth spot.

Cazorla was instrumental in their success last season, and provided Wenger with a creative option. Theo Walcott took over the stage as the main goal threat, and Cazorla was quick to form a partnership with the England international, with the pair seen combining well together to score and create goals for the club.

Arsenal have always been strong in midfield, and Mikel Arteta and Cazorla have been running the show this year, with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere not yet in full force. This midfield has been supported by players like Lukas Podolski, who sit behind the Walcott and create play for each other.

The recent statements by the club about their spending intentions will give the current squad members a boost, and reports of potential signings in Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic will only bring an improvement in morale of the squad.

According to ESPN, Cazorla has iterated that the squad have taken advantage of an impressive run of form, and will perform at the highest level next season.

Cazorla said, “Every team in the league has a complicated period at some point and their level drops.

When the team doesn’t win and we don’t get the results we want, the collective confidence does drop a little and that’s natural.

“Now, we’ve put in a spectacular run-in and you can see the difference in mentality.

“We have great players. I’m sure next season we’ll be a better team and we’ll improve. There are young players. It’s clear this squad has plenty of potential to improve.

“Next season, we hope we can be even better and win trophies and the supporters can enjoy it. That’s what Arsenal really wants. I hope I can keep developing too.”
