Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell says he believes Kieran Tierney will be selected in the starting lineup for the North London derby this weekend.
The 25-year-old was taken off with a head injury in Scotland’s 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland on Saturday but Campbell is confident that, if he is available, the fullback will be picked by Mikel Arteta to face Tottenham:
“Kieran Tierney’s going to start, if he’s fit. Let’s be honest, Zinchenko hasn’t played for a while. Kieran Tierney went off, but it was more precaution, so hopefully he’s going to be alright. I thought Kieran Tierney against Brentford was outstanding. I really thought he was outstanding. And I think he was starting to get a grip in his own way of playing in that midfield at times. We didn’t look out of shape, we looked dominant with Kieran Tierney in the team. I thought it was his best game all season so if he’s fit, he plays. Zinchenko will probably be on the bench.”
Tierney does seem to be in pole position to start on Saturday. As Campbell mentions, Oleksandr Zinchenko has not played since coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 win over FC Zurich in the Europa League earlier this month.
He has had to sit out the international break due to a calf injury and it would be a tough ask if he was thrown straight back in for the derby.
As long as Tierney is suffering no ill effects following his own injury scare, he would be the logical choice to start against Spurs.
