“Bring him home!” – Arsenal fans react as Giroud nears Spain switch

Atletico Madrid are in discussions with Chelsea to take striker Olivier Giroud to Spain this summer, according to reports.

Giroud joined Chelsea in January from London rivals Arsenal, and enjoyed a fine six months at Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as Antonio Conte’s number one striker and helping the Blues lift the FA Cup in May.

The Frenchman also had an impressive summer, leading the line for France as Dider Deschamps’ side won the World Cup for only the second time in their history.

However after only half a season with Chelsea, Giroud could already be on his way out, with Sky Sports Italia reporting Atletico Madrid are in talks to take the 31-year-old forward to Spain.

Representatives from both parties are reported to have met in London to discuss a potential deal, with the La Liga side understood to prefer a loan move.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone is on the hunt for a new striker, and was ready to move for AC Milan star Nikola Kalinic.

However with the Serie A side taking too long to discuss a potential deal, the Argentine has now turned his attention to Giroud.

Giroud came to the Premier League in 2012 from Montpellier, and has since scored 76 Premier League goals with Arsenal, in-turn establishing himself as a cult hero in North London.
