Big week for Arsenal ahead as major transfer is back on

Arsenal have struggled at the start of the new Premier League season, struggling to a victory over Leicester City on the opening night before falling to a 1-0 defeat against Stoke City this weekend- significantly raising the pressure on Arsene Wenger’s side.

The Gunners face a huge test this weekend as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool, the side that pipped them to a Champions League spot last season, and Arsenal need a positive result to ease the feeling of discontent around North London.

Arsenal impressed in the early periods of the summer transfer window, landing Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer before parting with a club-record sum to bring Alexandre Lacazette in from Lyon, but the Gunners have been silent in the market since.

Wenger’s prime-target is widely reported to have been Monaco ace Thomas Lemar but the demands from the French champions had seemingly led to a collapse in a deal. However, things could be back-on for the Gunners.

French outlet Le 10 Sport claim Monaco are considering cashing in on Lemar in the final ten days of the transfer window, which opens the door for Arsenal to complete a move and significantly bolster their ranks.

Arsene Wenger has suggested that his focus in the final stages of the transfer market that his focus is on clearing the deadwood from his squad, having already offloaded Gabriel Paulista and sent both Cohen Bramall and Carl Jenkinson on-loan to Birmingham City, but he has plenty left to do with other players.

However, he has stated that he would re-enter the market for an ‘exceptional’ player and the availability of Thomas Lemar would certainly grab his attention, though it may be difficult to fit the French ace into his side.

Danny Welbeck has been a starter for Arsenal in the opening weeks of the season but his performances have been lacklustre and he looks short of being able to be the attacking asset that the Gunners need, especially if they’re to fight for the title.

Thomas Lemar, on the other hand, would be a huge addition to the Gunners ranks and stands as a player who could be world-class in the coming years, potentially filling the void that Alexis Sanchez would leave at the Emirates Stadium if he elects not to sign a new deal.
