Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The 20-year-old has been rewarded after breaking into the first team this season.

Manager Unai Emery named him in the starting eleven for the first three league games of the campaign and the Spaniard says he is absolutely delighted with the player’s development over the past twelve months:

“Joe has progressed a lot in the last year. He is technically strong and has shown the confidence to take responsibility and play his game whatever the occasion or opposition. I’m looking forward to working with to help him develop further and fulfil his potential.”

Supporters on Twitter have welcomed the news and are hoping to see much more of Willock in the first team:

The arrival of Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid means there is fierce competition for places in the centre of midfield, especially with Matteo Guendouzi having started the campaign in such good form.

Willock could well return to the starting line up this weekend, after being named on the bench for the North London derby. There are doubts over Lucas Torreira an Granit Xhaka’s fitness after suffering knocks on international duty.
